THE ORMAN HOUSE
This stunning antebellum mansion overlooks the Apalachicola River and was built in 1830 by Thomas Orman, one of Apalachicola’s wealthiest citizens at the time. Orman was a prominent businessman who gained his fortune as a prolific cotton merchant, helping the tiny river town of Apalach become one of the Gulf Coast’s most prominent 19th century cotton exporting ports.
Visitors can take a tour of the house and full property, which also includes the adjoining Chapman Botanical Gardens, plus a visitor center with exhibits on the history of Apalach.
